Jimmy Buffett San Diego Concert Alert

Jimmy will be coming to Coors Amphitheater on Thursday October 16. This may be Jimmy's only appearance in Southern California. Tickets go on sale to the public on Monday April 14th. We do not have a price as of yet, although the average PHIP cost for concert tickets ranges from $130 to $136. The SDPHC is eligible for a certain number of concert tickets through PHIP. If this is the only concert in southern California, we will be sharing the eligibility with the 7 other Southern California Clubs. The first opportunity to purchase club tickets will go to those who have been most active in the club in the past year. As always your dues must be current to qualify for tickets. The current dues period runs from October 1, 2007 to September 30, 2008. The concert is scheduled October 16, 2008 so everyone will need to renew to qualify for tickets. Once there is an official announcement we will begin collecting money. We expect that there will be a very short time frame for the collecting ticket money. So, at this time, we are interested in establishing a list of who would like to attend. If you would like an opportunity to purchase tickets through the club (1 ticket per member) please submit you request to Sharon Clark at Sharon@sdphc.org

While it is premature to collect money for concert tickets we are accepting dues renewals for the period October 1, 2008 to September 30, 2009. We are asking that if you are interested in tickets that you renew your dues when you express and interest in tickets. You may go to our website www.sdphc.org, click on the membership area, down load, and complete the renewal form and return with a check made out to SDPHC, to the address on the form. If you prefer you may also renew through Pay Pal.

Please note that if you HAVE NOT renewed for 2008 you will have to renew for both 2008 and 2009. If you are not sure if you have renewed for 2008 please contact Janice' at Janice@sdphc.org.

We need 50 volunteers. As of this date we have 20-30. We will work the Transition Area Pointers/Athlete Support. This is where the athletes have all their equipment and will go to change from swim to bike to run. It's important to look for athletes that may need to medical attention and walk them to the Med Tent, point athletes to where they need to head out, keep athletes from jumping out in front of other athletes as they get onto the center carpet, keeping their spirits up, and encouraging them to keep going strong, etc. No family members or friends of the athletes are allowed in this area so volunteers play a crucial part of cheering the athletes on. You will receive a volunteer shirt, a sack lunch, wristband for access to transition area, and parking pass Contact Chuck (butlercg1@cox.net 619-660-0390) and Gail Folsom (legspoway@aol.com 858-486-9011 home, 619-508-1646 cell) if you can participate or have any questions. Join the San Diego Parrot Head Club as we partner with Ford San Diego Ironman to support the Challenged Athletes Foundation We have been approached by the Ford Ironman race to participate in helping athletes as they transition from one stage to another.

Here are the details. Ford Ironman 70.3 California (1.2 mile swim in the Harbor; 56 mile bike ride from the Harbor thru Camp Pendleton, up San Clemente State Park, back onto Camp Pendleton to the Harbor; 13.1 mile run done in two loops of the Strand) Saturday, March 29th, 2008 Oceanside Harbor, Transition Area Volunteer Needs: 50 Volunteers Time: 11am-6pm

Job Description: Transition Area Pointers/Athlete Support…this is the hub of excitement. This is where the athletes have all their equipment and will go to change from swim to bike to run. It's important to look for athletes that may need to medical attention and walk them to the Med Tent, point athletes to where they need to head out, keep athletes from jumping out in front of other athletes as they get onto the center carpet, keeping their spirits up and encouraging them to keep going strong, etc. No family members or friends of the athletes are allowed in this area so volunteers play a crucial part of cheering the athletes on. We will provide a volunteer shirt (but we'd like for you to wear your Margaritaville outfits!), a sack lunch, wristband for access to transition area

We also would like to offer $500 for your non-profit if you would have 50 volunteers (if you come up with more/less volunteers, we'll re-configure the amount). Just for your info, the charity our race supports is Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) and we support many military units that help participate to make this event a success.

This event sets the standard for all the other North American Sports events (Ironmans) so we strive to set the bar high as well as the most entertaining. I appreciate any help as I need to get 1500 volunteers overall!

Gina Thomas
