Join the San Diego Parrot Head Club as we partner with Ford San Diego Ironman to support the Challenged Athletes Foundation.

We have been approached by the Ford Ironman race to participate in helping athletes as they transition from one stage to another. Here are the details.
Ford Ironman 70.3 California (1.2 mile swim in the Harbor; 56 mile bike ride from the Harbor thru Camp Pendleton, up San Clemente State Park, back onto Camp Pendleton to the Harbor; 13.1 mile run done in two loops of the Strand) Saturday, March 29th, 2008 Oceanside Harbor, Transition Area Volunteer Needs: 50 Volunteers Time: 11am-6pm
Job Description: Transition Area Pointers/Athlete Support…this is the hub of excitement. This is where the athletes have all their equipment and will go to change from swim to bike to run. It's important to look for athletes that may need to medical attention and walk them to the Med Tent, point athletes to where they need to head out, keep athletes from jumping out in front of other athletes as they get onto the center carpet, keeping their spirits up and encouraging them to keep going strong, etc. No family members or friends of the athletes are allowed in this area so volunteers play a crucial part of cheering the athletes on. We will provide a volunteer shirt (but we'd like for you to wear your Margaritaville outfits!), a sack lunch, wristband for access to transition area.

We also would like to offer $500 for your non-profit if you would have 50 volunteers (if you come up with more/less volunteers, we'll re-configure the amount). Just for your info, the charity our race supports is Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) and we support many military units that help participate to make this event a success.
This event sets the standard for all the other North American Sports events (Ironmans) so we strive to set the bar high as well as the most entertaining. I appreciate any help as I need to get 1500 volunteers overall!
Gina Thomas

SDPHC Business Meeting Minutes 2/20/08

Charity Committee – Next Tue
Charities will make pitches to us to be recipients of our various charity events. If you want to recommend a charity, let Sharon know ASAP. You don't have to attend the meeting, but a representative from the charity must attend the meeting. It's at Fiddler's Green at 6pm. You can attend to the meeting to introduce your charity.
Also, you can attend to listen to all the pitches and then vote. The committee will present the vote results at the following business meeting in March. The business meeting then can vote on this recommendation.

March 29 – 1/2 Ironman Triathlon
This is a major race, qualifying people for the full ironman in Kona.
We will work with the race sponsors to help in the athlete transition center. We have about 25 people who have signed up. We need 50 people. We'll help the athletes transition from one sport to the next. (We're not running a water station.) They want us there from 10am-6pm in Oceanside. However, we should get there closer to 8:30 to park, get the shuttle, and then you can watch the swimmers return. You'll get a t-shirt and lunch. Wear your best parrot head gear!
The Ironman sponsors will give us $500 to donate to charity if we can provide 50 people. If you are interested in participating, contact Chuck Butler or Gail Folsom. We'll have a happy hour at Monterey Cannery with Steve Orr after the triathlon.

SDPHC Business Meeting Minutes 1/23/08

SDPHC Treasurer's Report
Janice had a total of the following for 2007:
Volunteer hours from the club: 2092
Donations to charities by the club: $24,844
Now we're giving everyone member numbers just to help us keep track of members. We're giving separate numbers to dependents just so we don't have to pay PHIP for those people (since we're not required to pay for dependents).

Rocky Point Trip – Margarita Mafia Concert
We didn't have a bus trip. But over 300 people attended the concert (not all SDPHC members). We may try to organize a bus trip again – when we don't have a conflict with holiday expenses and the weather is warmer.

Anniversary Party – 9 months
Charity Selection – the charity committee will meet to hear presentations on Feb 26 from 6-8pm at Fiddler's Green. If you want to participate on the selection committee, contact Sharon.

Transition Station Assistance – Triathlon Sat, March 29, Oceanside Harbor
We are well known for our abilities to run a water station at the Rock N Roll Marathon and Carlsbad 5000. Well, the Oceanside Triathlon would like for us to participate in their event. They want for us to work in the transition station to help participant go from one sport to the next. But this time we won't put together a tiki bar. Instead we'll assist the participants. They would need us from 10am – 6pm. It's a full-day commitment, but we don't have to get there at "O'dark hundred." If we can provide 50 participants, they will donate $500 to a charity of our choice. They want us there in full parrot head regalia. Chuck and Gail will co-captain the event. Since we are in Oceanside, we'll see who's playing at the Monterey Cannery. We'll see about an after-event happy hour.
We had people sign up to see if there was interest. Twenty people signed up. So we made a motion to follow up on this. Motion was approved. So we'll follow up.

Join the San Diego Parrot Head Club as we partner with Ford San Diego Ironman to support the Challenged Athletes Foundation

We have been approached by the Ford Ironman race to participate in helping athletes as they transition from one stage to another. Here are the details.

Ford Ironman 70.3 California (1.2 mile swim in the Harbor; 56 mile bike ride from the Harbor thru Camp Pendleton, up San Clemente State Park, back onto Camp Pendleton to the Harbor; 13.1 mile run done in two loops of the Strand) Saturday, March 29th, 2008 Oceanside Harbor, Transition Area Volunteer Needs: 50 Volunteers Time: 10am-6pm

We will provide a volunteer shirt (but we'd like for you to wear your Margaritaville outfits!), a sack lunch, wristband for access to transition area

Gina Thomas

As you can see we need 50 volunteers. This has the potential to be as fun and fulfilling as the Rock And Roll Marathon Chuck Butler (butlercg1@cox.net 619-660-0390) and Gail Folsom (legspoway@aol.com 858 486 9011-home, 619-508-1646-cell) have volunteered to organize our members for this event. Please contact them if you can participate or have any questions and stay tuned for updates.

There will be a SDPHC North County Happy Hour after the event, details TBA
