SDPHC Business Meeting Minutes 11/7/07

We cancelled the last meeting due to the fires two weeks ago. One family lost a home, Paul & Sandy Castle. We are accepting donations to help them. Donations for Target or Bed, Bath, & Beyond or such are extremely helpful. If you have a donation, contact Sharon or Janice. PHIP is also willing to help. If you know of anyone else with needs due to the fires, please let us know too.

Fri January 18 – Jan 21 – Music Fest in Mexico

Rocky Point Mexico – across from San Felipe Mexico – Gary Seiler, Mark Mulligan, Rob Mehl and Kelly McGuire are going to play there for the weekend. We are chartering a bus to make the trip. The price is $270 for RT bus and hotel for 3 nights and dollar drinks on the bus. The hotel is nice, in town, on the beach. If we get more than 30 people, the cost will be less. If you are interested in going, let Sharon or Bob know. We are only getting one bus this time, so paid is first in.

Anniversary Party
Despite the rain it was a huge success. This was the first time it rained in Sept in 30 years. This year we paid for entertainment, but we got people at the time slots we wanted and the bands brought all of their members. We paid $50 per musician, but many donated their time. Our gate was down due to the weather – 427 armbands this year. In spite of all that, we sold more used shirts than ever - $1150. Silent auction – the number of items were down, but people paid more this year - $13,916 - $2500 more than last year. The raffle and new merchandise were down. We donated $18,400 to the Randall Clark Foundation. And this was despite an additional cost of $2500 for musicians and rain gear.

We had a new silent auction software program. People had to register and get a number. But then when silent auction closed, we were ready to check people out in 15 minutes, not an hour.

Gail & Teri won the campsite decoration concert.

Finances
We ended up with a really good year. Our memberships and renewals came in at over $4000 and new members at $1800. And there were t-shirt sales too. We now have almost $11,000 in our account after all charities paid. And we paid almost $25,000 to charities this year.

T-Shirts
The t-shirt printing company sent us double shirts. So they sold us the extra set of shirt for only $480, a fraction of the cost for original set. So we have plenty of t-shirts to sell. We'll sell shirts at the next business meeting.

Anniversary Party 2008
September 27 & 28

We have a charity committee. If you are interested in participating, contact Sharon. The charity review meeting will be in Feb, exact date TBD. During this meeting we will select the recipients for all of our events during the year. Also, if you want to recommend a charity, let Sharon know. Charities will make appeals during this meeting.

January 6, 2008 – Rock Bottom Brewery Miracle in the Gaslamp

We have participated the last few years and will participate again. Stay tuned for details to volunteer. We serve a formal brunch to people from Father Joe's village.

OB Parade
First Sunday in December – do we want to participate? Bob was hesitant because it's coming up soon and last year we had very little participation. No one showed any interest, so we won't participate this year.

SDPHC Holiday Party
Last year we had a party at Desi N Friends. We can do it here this year on Wed, Dec 12. Desi will give us the room for free and Jerry Gontang is already playing. We'd have a pot luck.

Or, Jeannie and Phil Meyers have offered to hold it at their home instead. They have a new home and nice back yard. And they'd have Mac play and the club would pay for it. They listed a few potential dates. The group liked Sat, Dec 15th.

There will be a charity component for the party. Please bring donations of toys and gift cards for a charity. The charity is TBD.

The members chose the location at Jeannie and Phil's house on the 15th. Since this is a pot luck, when you sign up, please let us know what you will bring. And anyone else interested in decorating should contact Jeannie. The party will start at 6pm

On Saturday September 22 the San Diego Parrot Head Club celebrated it 12th Anniversary by hosting a 12 hour charity, Party with a Purpose" at Campland on The Bay on Mission Bay, California. The bash started out Friday evening with Stars on the Water entertaining all the camping Parrot Heads under a clear San Diego night. We went to bed under the shining moon and woke to a cold and wet morning. The first major rain in San Diego in September in 30 years, also the first time there has been any rain on the actual day of our annual Anniversary Party. The Tiki gods smiled on us though, by the time the first of our 10 musicians started playing and the beer garden opened, we suffered one last shower and then the sun was shining! Due to the morning rain our attendance was down but 300 plus Parrot Heads and visitors helped us party with purpose raising approximately $20000 for a fund to help young amputees. A very special, thanks to all our volunteers, attendees, entertainers and beverage sponsors, Landshark Lager and Rock Bottom Brewing Co, for helping to make this event possible.
