2007 Anniversary Party Recap

On Saturday September 22 the San Diego Parrot Head Club celebrated it 12th Anniversary by hosting a 12 hour Party with a Purpose at Campland on The Bay on Mission Bay, California. The bash started out Friday evening with Stars on the Water entertaining all the campers and Parrot Heads under a clear San Diego night. We all went to bed hoping for a clear, warm Indian summer day on Saturday. We woke up to a cold and wet morning. The first major rain in San Diego in September in 30 years! It was also the first time there has been any rain on the actual day of our annual Anniversary Party Since Campland is strictly an outdoor venue we had a very scary morning, worrying about what to do if the rain refused to stop. However, by the time the two stages were set up and the first musician started at 10:45, we only suffered through one more shower. The weather then cleared and we had a wonderful, sunny, Fall day. Attendance was down due to rain, although we still had 12 hours of wonderful musical entertainment by Jeff Lee, Mark Baxter Todd Jacques and friends, Bob Karwin and Buzzy Buchanan, Mac McDonald, Joe Rathburn's island, the Duo-tones, Rob Mehl, Gary Seiler and Buffed Out, the Taylor Harvey Band, John Bowe and Tradewinds, and Stars on the Water featuring Jerry Gontang and Mike Broward. They all kept the 100 plus campers and 200 plus visitors partying with a purpose until 10:00 P.M... The partying was helped along by a beer garden featuring Landshark Lager, Rock Bottom Brewing Company's own Parrot Head Red Club ale, and wine Margaritas and Hurricanes.

Of course, as with any Parrot Head event this was a "Party with a Purpose." Our purpose this year was to raise money, through the Western States Exchange Club, to help Randall Clark, one of our members, and other young amputees with medical expenses not covered by Insurance. To achieve this, we held a silent auction, opportunity drawing, and shirt sales with all proceeds going to this fund. Preliminary figures show we raised approximately $19,000 for our cause.

Congratulations to all our campers and attendees-those who braved the weather, and the entertainers for helping make this another successful anniversary party. Special thanks go out to everyone who was involved in making this a success. I would like to recognize some specific volunteers. Janice' Berube, the chair person of the event, Sharon Clark the SDPHC Vice President and Charity Director, both of whom spent countless hours working on this to make everything come together. Lou Berube who worked tirelessly setting up and organizing all the compounds. Traci Merkel, the leader of our raffle table, Nan Clain and Dora Sanger, who worked our merchandise table and used shirt sales. John and Stephanie Bridger along with Parakeet, Karen, welcomed all to the Membership table. Jim Clain, our Chief of Security. Rick Santos who kept the margaritas and beer flowing. Our computer wizards who organized, set up and kept the silent auction running smoothly, Angie Cavesina and Brent Bowers. Shalon Hall, Justin Gruber, and our three parakeets Danny and Pedon Merkal , and Jessie Clain who pitched in wherever needed!

Again we could not do this without the support of all our wonderful members.

A wise young women in our club once said that if everyone in the club donated one item to the silent auction, one item to the raffle, one gently used Hawaiian or Buffett related t-shirt, and solicited an item from one donor would have a very successful event. With 400 members in our club this is so true-think about how many items we would have! Donation form and donation letter available at www.sdphc.org. You may bring any donations with you to the party, please try to get us the donation sheets before the party.

The Anniversary Party will have a great beer garden, featuring our own San Diego Parrot Head Club Red, brewed by Rock Bottom Brewing Co. We will be sponsoring and serving Jimmy Buffett's Land Shark Lager, courtesy of Budweiser Brewing Co. This will be the first official serving of Land Shark Lager at Southern California Parrot Head Club event. And we'll have wine margaritas. You must be 21 to enter the garden; ID's are required and will be checked at the gate. Soda and water will be available, but must be picked up by someone wearing a wristband.

There will be two stages, 11 hours of non-stop music featuring Jeff Lee, Mark Baxter and Friends, Bob Karwin & Buzz Buchanon, Mac McDonald, Joe Rathburns Island, Rob Mehl and the Duo-tones, Gary Seiler and Buffed Out, John Bowe and Tradewinds, Taylor Harvey Band, and Jerry Gontang and Stars on the Water.

There will be a great opportunity drawing and Silent Auction. The Silent auction will include autographed Jimmy Buffett memorabilia, original art work, custom made SDPHC surfboard, Neon signs from Landshark Lager, Margaritaville Tequila, Corona and too many other items to mention. We will also have an extensive collection of classic Hawaiian Shirts and Buffett related t-shirts for sale. All money raised from these events will be tax deductible through the Western States Exchange Club and benefit the Randall Clark fund, established to help young amputees with medical expenses and regain their lives. You must either be present or name a specific designee to win a silent auction bid.

There will be Contest for best decorated Campsite. If you need further information: please contact:

San Diego Parrot Head Club Anniversary Party Update

September 13, 2007

Hello Anniversary Party Phlockers!! Are you ready to "Party with a Purpose?

Everyone has done a great job of volunteering and donations are flowing in at a steady pace. This is a very good, please continue to solicit donations and we can NEVER have enough volunteers.

There are only 9 days left to purchase your wristbands and we cannot sell them at Campland. Please gather your parrot-phriendly phamily and phriends and buy your wristbands now!

We can make this SDPHC 12th Anniversary Party a record breaker, but we still need your help. You can purchase them at any Parrot Head function, through a Board member or Representative who has them in their pocket, or at Captain's Cove in Seaport Village open 7 days a week 10 A.M. to 10 P.M. (including on the day of the event).

What you get for your $25 donation:

*Participation in the 12th Annual Party at Campland on Mission Bay

*Live Entertainment: music from 11am-10pm featured on 2 stages

*Access to our beer garden with shade, chairs and the best view of the stages, and of course Beer Garden: beer (Rock Bottom Parrot Head Red and Landshark Lager), wine, margaritas, wine, and soda.

*Port-a-potty's

*Access to our great Silent Auction and Opportunity drawing

*Satisfaction in donating money for our charity, this year helping young amputees regain their lives.

THIS IS A GREAT BARGAIN! Where else can you get a full day of live entertainment for $25.00?!

Volunteers that work this event and the money earned from wristband sales are what make this event possible. We have many expenses including paying for fencing, port-a-potty's, license, the stage, the bands, etc. Please help by passing the word to your parrot-friendly family and friends, making sure that everyone attending purchases a wristband. Like all of our events, this is a "Party with a Purpose!"

The bottom line is simple, the more wristbands we sell the more money we raise for charity! So let's us all see what we can do in the next week!

Thank you all for the help! See you the 22nd!

Bob Clark
President
