SDPHC Business Meeting 6/20/07

OTL
We need to determine if we have enough volunteers to keep the compound open on the 2nd Saturday

We have so many areas that we need covered – front and back gates, bar, merchandise, and set-up and clean-up. There was a suggestion that we leave the fence and easy-ups standing. And the port-a-potties would be there too. But we'd break the rest of it down the end of the first Sunday. We decided to table this decision to the next business meeting (which is the Wed before OTL). If you can volunteer 2 hours, please email Janice, captainscove@sbcglobal.net.

Las Vegas Concert tickets for Buffett

They have come in. If you ordered any, then get your money to Sharon.

Pub Crawl
69 people attended. We raised $2500 for Challenged America. That is the same amount we raised last year. A big thanks to the organizers, Janice and Amanda, and all of the people who helped at Paradise Bar and Grill with the morning and happy hour in the evening.

Tue July 24 – Rock Bottom Brewmaster Dinner

Benefits the Randall Clark Fund. Gary Seiler is playing – donating his time. A great menu. The details are on the e-newsletter. Contact Janice or Mikki Neil at Rockbottom to reserve your spot. $35 per person plus gratuity. Includes all the beer you can drink. Wine and mixed drinks are available. Theme is pirate – so wear your best pirate gear.

Migration
It's $40 to register. It's close to being sold out. It's in Las Vegas this year. It's the last weekend in July and centered at the Hooter's Hotel & Casino. A dozen of your favorite Trop Rock bands will be playing.

Chili Cook-off – also last weekend in July

Charity benefit for Marine Corp Operation Injured fund. The details are in the e-newsletter. This is in Kearny Mesa.

Shirts & Merchandise
We placed an order to SDPHC regular merchandise. If you want a spaghetti strap woman's shirt or zip hooded sweat shirt, contact Janice to reserve them. The rest of the merchandise – men's and women's t-shirts, men's tank – we'll have plenty. They're all white with the SDPHC logo.

Anniversary Party shirt – trying to figure out the design for this year. The "shiver me timbers" last year went really well. The "party with a purpose and pirate ship" did reasonably well too. Or we could try something new. Caribbean Soul is another company – a bit more expensive, but lots of new designs. We need to make a decision next meeting. Janice showed a catalog with designs and she'll bring in some samples for the next meeting.

Anniversary Party
Campland is sold out for tent camping. We're $155 for two nights camping and 2 armbands. We have 98 sites and 51 reserved. So you must go through us. We're close to selling out the 44' pull through site – only 6 left. We also have a deal with Travel Time RV if you want to rent one (3 night minimum). They can deliver and you save 10%.

We don't have a campsite theme yet. So we talked about possibilities. Bob Cvitkovich recommended the Pirate theme. Hawaiian was mentioned too. Then Nan suggested an open theme and that was selected. So you pick your theme for your campsite.

We need Silent Auction and Raffle items. We have donation forms and letters. And they are attached to the e-newsletter, and available for download on our website.

MOTM National Phlocking
There are only about 1000 spots left out of 3500 spaces. It will sell out, probably by mid July. It's Nov 1-4. If you are interested in going, go to phip.com for details.

Little Races for Little People
Rick Santos is chairing again. It's Sat Aug 18th at Chula Vista marina. It's a fun event. Let Rick know if you'd like to crew. rickinpb@hotmail.com Also, let us know if you'd like to volunteer to help at the event. It's a charity fundraiser. We're going to sponsor 2-3 boats, depending upon how much money we raise at OTL.

Juvenile Diabetes Walk – Oct 14th – we always have a team

Membership Renewals – mailing out mid July – you need to renew for September

2007 Pub Crawl Recap

The 2007 Pub Crawl has come and gone. Thanks to the hard work of the chair people and volunteers it was another rousing success, raising $2500 for challenged America. Congratulations to Janice’ Berube and Amanda Witizens chairs of this event. To Sharon Clark, Nan Clain, Lou Berube, Jim Clain who worked tirelessly setting up the event and helped keep everything running smoothly during the happy hour. To those volunteers who passed on the pub crawl to work setting up and working the silent auction and opportunity drawing during the event, Cat and Errol Samuelson, Patricia and Luis Gallegos, Star Darden, and Kat Ohlman. We would like to thank our founder John Bowe and his lead guitarist from Tradewinds who really kept the music jumping and deserve a big round of applause. Of course the Pub Crawl would not be a pub crawl unless we visited pubs. As usual all the pubs we visited did an outstanding job. Paradise Lounge and grill, Wong’s Golden Dragon, The Galley at the Chula Vista Marina, Rock Bottom Brewing Company, the Sky Box, Fiddler’s Green and Desk N Friends all deserve our support ant returning visits. And the winner for the best Boat Drink and pub of 2007 are Fiddlers Green, first place. Paradise Lounge Second place and Rock Bottom third place. Special thanks also goes to Kirk and our host bar Paradise Lounge for setting up a great happy hour and putting up with a bunch of crazy parrot heads for two years running, Kirk you helped make this year a great success. Thanks to the seventy participants on the pub crawl and parrot heads that came to the happy hour for helping us raise $2500 for Challenged America.

SDPHC - Water Station at RnR a great success!

Hi Parrotheads,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you that worked the waterstop at the Rock and Roll Marathon today. Everyone worked very hard to help the runners make it to the finish line, and help raise money for a great cause. I am not sure where we placed in the contest for the best waterstop, but I think ours was GREAT.

I would like to say a special thanks to the following people, in no particular order. Lou and Bob C., for showing up to load and unload all of the stuff that makes our stop successful. Patricia Mills, for doing a wonderful job on decorations. Amanda, for providing both kryspy kream's and bagels. Wendy, for keeping the sports drink going. Sue B. and Nancy K. for handing the check in and check out process. John B. for providing great Music. The crew that showed up at 4:30 AM, you know who you are.

If you haven't heard by now, we were mentioned in the Union Tribune, in a quote by one of the wheel chair runners. ""It was no fun today," said Edwin Figueroa, who won the wheelchair competition. The victim of a drive-by shooting in L.A. had no competition. "I thought I was going to have some help," he added. "After maybe eight miles, I was by myself."

Well, at least he was partially entertained, what with 40 rock bands positioned along the course. My favorite spot is Margaritaville, at the halfway mark, where San Diego Parrot Head Club members make margaritas all day long - for themselves and the participants.

"Runners do take them," event manager Meagan Young would say. Not the elite runners, of course. No," she said, laughing. "The 5-and 6-hour runners." This is a quote From:

http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/canepa/20070604-9999-1s4canepa.html

This shows that the runners really like what we do, and we make a difference. It is a because we have the best volunteers in San Diego.

Again thanks for all of your hard work you all did a fantastic job, with out you, it would not have been possible.

Mayor Chuck
