SDPHC Business Meeting 2/7/07

Holiday Bowl 2006
John Bowe sells tickets for the holiday bowl. From that, he raises money to bring 8 children & 2 chaperones to the game from the Copley Family YMCA. These children are inner city youth. This is our 8th year doing this. Also, during the End Zoner's party prior to the game, he passes the hat to raise money for these children. We raised $200 for the children. The YMCA sent us a very nice thank you letter, which John read at the meeting.

Humphrey's Back Stage – March 5th from 7-11
John Bowe and Island Breeze will be playing. This is the "true" anniversary of the SDPHC.

Anniversary Party
Have sent out letters to the bands that played last year. And it looks like we'll have a very good line up this year, similar to last year's line up. This year we will be compensating the musicians. This will keep the musicians coming, rather than pulling out because they have paid gigs. They will play for 60 minutes. And we'll pay each musician $50.

Last year a lot of people rented RV's through Travel Time. This year, they came to Janice and told her that if enough people rented, we could get group rates. You can pick it up yourself or they will deliver it to Campland and pick it up for an additional $85, and they'll waive the setup fee. We get this if at least 10 people rent. Prices range from $159 to $429 for three nights. (There is no discount for 2 nights.) Contact Janice for more details or if you are interested. (You don't have to commit right now, but it gives us an idea.) They are also available for OTL, but Janice doubts that there will be a discount. They will deliver to Fiesta Island too.

We have 98 camp sights reserved. We didn't go over the 100 mark to keep our deposit cost down. Our rates are higher due to the time of year. It'll cost $155 for two nights camping and two wristbands. And this is the cost for members. It will cost an additional $20 for non-members. Or you can join for $25 and get the member rate.

Charity Fishing Tournament – Late August
Phil Myers and Dan Nutt are chairing this. Details to come.

Charity Pub Crawl – June 9th
Details to come. But we already have commitments from Desi's, Fiddler's Green, Wong's, and Paradise Bar & Grill. If you know a bar that would like to welcome us, let Janice or Amanda Witzens know. We're there for 45 min. The bar donates a boat drink. We also need to consider the geographical route for travel time. This will sell out fast. First come first serve. If you don't want to go, you still can go to the after party at Paradise Bar & Grill. We are looking for a few people who are not going on the pub crawl to come to the Paradise Bar & Grill early to set up the raffle and silent auction.

Russ Chase Memorial Event
It's this weekend and about 30 people from the club are going. It's in Seattle, WA. There will be a huge line-up of music. There is still room, if you find yourself in Seattle this weekend.

House Concerts in SD
Hugo Duarte & Jerry Gontang -- Sunday, Feb 18th from 2:30-5:30. It's in El Cajon. It's $15. Please RSVP. Details are in the e-newsletter.
Sat, Feb 17th – Tijuana's Bar in Irvine – Hugo and Jerry will be playing.

Friday March 16th at Joan Robbins house – details TBD

Other Events
Autism Walk – Sat March 24 – details in e-newsletter; this is a charity walk in Balboa Park

Fins to the West – Laughlin Regional gathering – May 3-5; We are one of the supporting clubs this year. Details in e-newsletter.

OMBAC Coming Out Party is set for May 19th –
Note that this is not on their website; it's not final since the city of SD can change it (and has done so in the past)

Migration – was a Southern CA regional event, usually in Long Beach, but this year it's been moved to Las Vegas at the Hooter's casino. It's the last weekend in July. (Hence our anniversary party is the only one in southern CA.)

Music & Margaritas 4 day cruise at Sept 27 – 31 from SD to Cabo. They'll cap this at 350 and there will be a fundraising aspect too. Details to come.

Other News
Inland Empire PHC just folded this year after 10 years.

Janice looked at MeetUp.com as a way to look for new PHC members. The cost for us is $72 for 6 months. We become a common interest group. If people are interested in Jimmy Buffett, they could find us and perhaps become members. We can put up info about the club. The club voted to try this for 6 months.

Sunday February 18 There's a new house concert venue in East County. We are calling it Harmony del Sol. We are excited to share our home and some wonderful music with you! For our first show, we are happy to present an afternoon with Hugo Duarte and Jerry Gontang. Sunday, February 18th, 2007 2:30pm Doors open at 2:00 $15.00 at the door Hugo Duarte is a remarkably talented Singer/Songwriter/storyteller. He blends a bit of country, a pinch of bluegrass, a handful of southern rock, a cup or two of the blues, a dash of island music, occasionally sprinkled with American history, or tales of the sea, to form an eclectic style that doesn't fit into any particular genre. See

www.hugoduarte.com for more info. Hugo will be joined by his friend, Jerry Gontang.

Most local music supporters know Jerry, a native San Diegan, specializes in a Tropical Rock and Roll and "Jimmy Buffett" style of music.
