SDPHC Business Meeting Minutes 1/10/07

SDPHC Christmas Party
We had a great turnout of over 70 people. There were many new members. With such a success, we'll hold it again next year.

Treasurer's Report
We increased our treasury from Jan to Dec 06 by $48. There is over $6000 in the account. We are really pleased since, along with our usual yearly expenses, we had an additional $7500 in expenses for taxes for incorporation.

We donated over $27,000 to local charities during 2006. This included the anniversary party, the charity pub crawl, and the benefit for Mark Mulligan (after his wife passed away in a car crash).

The next time we get a significant amount of money again will be this summer with dues renewals. So the money we have now we'll need for all of our events through the summer.

Happy Hour at Fiddler's Green on Shelter Island – Sat, Jan 27th from 1-5pm.

This is a fun event and a fund raiser for Challenged America. Challenged America helps people with disabilities. At the event, there will be a great free spread of food and live music. We'll have a silent auction and raffle. If you have items to donate for this event (or any other charity event), please let us know. We are always accepting donations. This event is free – no ticket. Just come and buy drinks, raffle items, and silent auction items. This is not just a parrot head event. Please invite your friends.

Desi N Friends – 5th Anniversary Party – Sat Jan 27th

It's $10, and if you pay in advance, you'll also get a t-shirt. She'll have live entertainment, great food, a champagne toast, and a raffle.

Charity Selection
In February, we'll be soliciting for charity recipients for this year's fund raising events. The potential recipients will give their pitches in March. Details TBD.

Laughlin – Phins to the West is the weekend of May 4th
Details are TBD.

February 10th – Seattle – Puget Sound parrot head club – Russ Chase memorial fund raiser. See the e-newsletter for full details. HUGE line-up of people.

OTL – Second and Third weekend of July

There is not a conflict with the Orange County Migration event this year. Migration is the week after OTL.

June 3rd is the Rock N Roll marathon and we'll run a water station again.

Charity Pub Crawl – probably June 9th, but could be June 16th. If you have a potential bar, talk to them about the event and then we can call them. For details about this, talk with Janice Berube or Amanda Witzens.

Upcoming Charity Events
We will participate in more "show up and work" charity events, such as a beach clean up, gleaning (picking fruit for needy in SD), and boxing food at food bank. Dates are TBD.

If you have other ideas for events, please submit your ideas to Bob or any of the board members.

Robert suggested doing a raft-up. The club hasn't done that in three years. So let Bob know if you are interested.

Also, rumor has it Buffett may go to Vegas in April. No west coast tour has been announced officially.

Winter Shelter for Homeless Veterans (on SPAWR Property off Rosecrans)

Errol is collecting donations again at any parrot head meeting or event. Or you can take it to the shelter directly. The shelter always can use clothes, socks, toiletries, and over the counter medications. You can get a receipt for tax purposes. We've been supporting the shelter for almost 8 years. The shelter is funded by the city. It opened mid-December and runs through March, later if funding is available. The shelter is a tent that houses 150 veterans. The shelter also provides social services. For more details, contact Errol, stgcmsam@aol.com.

Sunday January 7 The Miracle in the Gaslamp-Dining with dignity

Each guest will receive a warm welcome and an extraordinary dining experience. Seated at tables with white linen table-cloths and napkins, silver ware and china, guests will enjoy a traditional holiday meal complete with all of the trimmings. New gifts to be distributed include warm adult and children's clothing, blankets, school supplies and other essentials. Each guest will have the chance to make a long distance telephone call, enjoy a video game room and visit with our strolling magician and clown. From a single event in Denver in 1996, the Miracle Events have grown in response to the tremendous need across the country. In 2006-07, in partnership with local non-profit agencies, over 10,000 homeless, displaced and disadvantaged people in eleven cities will receive an outpouring of community generosity. These events produce smiles on faces that have seen mostly scarcity and hardship.
