POSTED BY BOB CLARK ON THE PHIP LIST SERVE 07/24/06
On Any Given Day- For those of us involved in local Parrot Head Clubs and PHIP, we have seen an outpouring of generosity over the last few years. This has ranged from donating time and money to members in need after natural disasters like the hurricanes of last year and helping support the troops in Iraq, to dealing with friends of the Parrot Head Nation who have had personal loss or injury. The two most recent examples being the accident that occurred to Randy Renner's daughter Arwen and the tragic death of Mark Mulligan's wife Adela, and the resulting serious injuries to Mark's sons. The San Diego Parrot Head Club with the help of Mark's best friend Gary Seiler, held a fundraiser for Mark last night that makes us very proud. Through the generosity of our club members and friends we were able to raise over $3100 in just three hours. We have one member; his girlfriend pays for his membership, who likes to say he is not a parrot head. However he does have a heart of gold was not afraid to put his money where his mouth is. He made a cash donation and challenged everyone to match it. His effort alone raised $700. What I find amazing, and what keeps me active even when things are a little rocky, is that on any given day Parrot Heads, Parrot Head Clubs, and PHIP are doing the same thing. Partying with a purpose, Raising money for those in need and helping the community. -Phinz up to the Parrot Head Nation!!

Anniversary Party Donations-Our Anniversary Party is coming up, Friday September 29th – Saturday September 30th. Planning has kicked into full gear. Our most profitable events are the Raffle and Silent Auction. We make about half our money from these two events, and 100% of this money goes to our charity. This year, it is the Monarch School, which provides an accredited education to homeless and at-risk kids while caring for basic needs such as healthcare, food, clothing and personal hygiene. See www.monarchschools.org for more details. It is a non-profit 5013c institution.
And this is where you come in to help. Please, please, it is time to solicit donations for these two events. Ask your local businesses or establishments that you patronize to donate items for our cause. A donation letter describing this year's cause and a form for items are available at our web site www.sdphc.org the board looks forward to all of your help. Every item helps another child get the education he or she needs to succeed. We are also accepting camping reservations at this time. See more Anniversary Party details in "Squawkings" Below

Special Event Fund Raiser Sunday July 22, 2006
Mark Mulligan, great musician, friend, and supporter of the San Diego Parrot Head Club had a devastating tragedy last week. Mark's wife Adela and his two sons, Marcos and Luis, were involved in a traffic accident near their home in San Carlos Mexico. Adela was killed and his two sons were seriously injured. A fund has been set up to help Mark at the following address. http://sancarlosmexico.com/attractions.html
All the money donated through this fund goes directly to Mark.
Gary Seiler, who has cancelled his live recording of a CD at the Galley next week, will be going to San Carlos Tuesday to stay with Mark. Gary and the SDPHC thought we could do a little more, so we have decided to turn Gary and Ron's Bell Sunday performance into a fundraiser for Mark Mulligan and his family.
Here are the details:
Sunday July 23, 2006 Galley at the Chula Vista Marina 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. Fund Raiser for Mark Mulligan and his sons sponsored by Gary Seiler and the San Diego Parrot Head Club. Entertainment will be by Gary Seiler and Ron Bell. There will be fund raising efforts during the event. Gary will take all donations with him to San Carlos and deliver them directly to Mark. Please come out to help Mark and enjoy the evening. Gary and Ron put on a great show and this will be one to remember.

The New Club Photo Album
The new photo album is up and running.
You'll need to register before you can upload pictures.I was able to reload all the old photos from our previous program but was unable to give photo credits or details about the picture. I encourage people to add comments below the pictures if you know who took the picture, who is in the picture or any other details that others might appreciate knowing.
I may play around with the look of the album some more, we'll see.

OMBAC Over the Line Tournament, Fiesta Island.
Saturday and Sunday, July 15/16 and 22/23. The SDPHC is Again sponsoring teams in this years tournament and once again will have our own private compound with adult beverages, water and soda, shade, men's and women porta-potties, and of course plenty of Jimmy Buffett music. There are some major changes to the event that the City has imposed on OMBAC, and they will be affecting all of us. One of the new rules is a limit on the number of persons that may be in the compound at any given time, and we must have an accurate count at all times. So, as a result, we have decided that at this time, our compound will be limited to "Members Only". This may change as we draw closer to the event and receive more information concerning the number of persons permitted and our own liability insurance. This also serves as a charity event, raising money for the Children' hospital Neo-Natal Center, and other local charities. So to enter the compound we are asking for $10 donation a day at the gate ($15 for both Saturday and Sunday the first weekend). This donation will include use of the compound and all facilities. We are looking for volunteers to set up the Compound Friday afternoon, July 14. We also need volunteers to help with the compound. Beverage Service, accepting memberships and security in the compound, for two hour shifts on July 15, 16 + 22nd. We will also need several people to assist us with breaking down the compound in the afternoon on July 22. If you would like to volunteer for any of the above mentioned positions, please contact Bob Clark, bobclark@sdphc.org; Sharon Clark, Sharon@sdphc.org;or Janice' Berube, Janice@sdphc.org; captainscove@sbcglobal.net

The New Web Site
Welcome to our new, possibly temporary, website. I'm experimenting with the idea of having the site run as a blog and am trying out Googles Blogger to see how it works for us.
I still have a lot of stuff left over from the old site that needs to be added. I'll be doing that here and there as time permits.
We'll see how this goes for awhile, if it doesn't work I'll go back and redesign a new site and load it up on my server.
Enjoy,
Bob Segel

Our Anniversary Party is coming up
Friday September 29th – Saturday September 30th.
A donation letter describing this year's cause and a form for items are attached The board looks forward to all of your help. Every item helps another child get the education he or she needs to succeed. We are also accepting camping reservations at this time. See more Anniversary Party details in "Squawkings" Below

The SDPHC Fourth Annual Pub Crawl and Happy Hour has come and gone
On Saturday June 24. 79 members and friends hopped on a double deck bus from British Bus Company and a Stretch Limo provided by Kirk and the Paradise Lounge and Grill, our host for the event and the happy hour afterwards. We enjoyed the hospitality of 7 pubs, Wong's Golden Dragon, Hooley's, The Galley, Rock Bottom in the Gaslamp, Fiddlers Green, Desi N Friends, and the Paradise Lounge and Grill. The Pubs were competing for the "best boat drink" and The Galley at the Chula Vista Marina won first place. Wong's Golden Dragon and Fiddlers Green tied for second. The Happy Hour afterwards featured cheeseburgers and drink specials, entertainment from the Taylor Harvey Band, who rocked the house, and a great opportunity drawing and silent auction. The purpose of this fun event was to raise money for the Autism Research Institute and we were able to raise $3400. Kudos to all who participated in the event helping to make this the most successful Pub Crawl we have had. Special thanks to Amanda Witzens and Janice' Berube who put a lot of heart, soul, and sweat into making this such a success.
